When rain falls and seeps deep into the earth, filling the cracks, crevices and porous spaces on an aquifer, it becomes groundwater, one of our least visible but most important natural resources.
But, water is uniquely vulnerable to pollution. Known as a Universal Solvent, water is able to dissolve more substances than any other liquid on earth. Water is the reason we have Kool-Aid and brilliant blue waterfalls, and it is also why water is so easily polluted.
Toxic substances from factories, cities and farms very easily dissolve into the water and mix with it casing the pollution. This is so sad, and not many people seams to do something about it. And the future does not look too promissor.
It also seams that nobody really understand how the widespread problem of water pollution is jeopardizing our health.
The numbers showing that polluted water kills more people each year than the war and all other forms of violence combined. Meanwhile, our drinkable water sources are finite. Less than 1% of the earth’s freshwater is actually accessible to people.
How about sip a glass of clean water as you still can today. If you don’t take action now, by the year 2050, global demand for freshwater is expected to increase by one third greater than it is today.
According to the most recent surveys on National Water quality from the US Environmental Protection Agency, nearly half of our rivers and streams and more than one third of our lakes are polluted. All types of contamination like nitrates and phosphates are part of this contamination. What are you going to do about this?
Nonpoint source pollution is contamination derived from diffuse sources. and this agriculture and stormwater runoff.
In my opinion, polluted water will be one devastating human problem in a short period of time. A few decades. But we can still change this
